Former DLA Piper partner Betty Louie has joined Orrick’s M&A and private equity practice in Rome. Louie focuses on cross-border M&A and is a leader in representing Chinese companies in investments in Italy and Europe. She is the fourth partner to join Orrick in Italy in the past year.
Louie has practiced in Italy for more than seven years, advising publicly-traded and private companies, financial institutions and private equity firms on cross-border M&A and capital markets transactions, according to the company. As a Chinese-speaking U.S.-qualified lawyer based in Italy, she has an extensive record of successfully representing Chinese companies (including state-owned enterprises and publicly-listed companies), investment funds and banks in their acquisitions and operations in complex European investments.
"Betty is a skilled M&A practitioner with a deep cultural understanding of Chinese clients. She will be a terrific asset as we help clients pursue outbound investment strategies," said Maurice Hoo, Orrick’s global co-head of M&A and Private Equity, in a statement. Orrick represents a number of Chinese enterprises in investments and dispute resolution around the world through the firm’s Beijing, Hong Kong and Shanghai offices and offices worldwide.
Prior to her new role, Louie practiced for more than 10 years in New York as a DLA partner. Betty earned her J.D. from Northwestern University, where she was articles editor of the Northwestern Law Review.
Founded in San Francisco in 1863, Orrick is a global law firm with a particular focus on serving companies in the technology, energy and financial sectors.
