The Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) Association has launched a new chapter in Japan less than a month after announcing the creation of its Miami chapter.

Japan becomes the CAIA’s 27th worldwide chapter, according to a statement by the organization. As with other CAIA chapters, it has been formed to bring together CAIA members, candidates, educational institutions, and other alternative investment industry participants in Japan and across Asia together for learning and networking opportunities.

“Japan’s alternative investment community is both diverse and robust, and represents a tremendous concentration of knowledge and innovation,” said William Kelly, CEO of CAIA. “With CAIA Japan, we will work to bring all of those resources together to help facilitate dialogue, networking opportunities, and the further expansion of CAIA’s presence as an education resource for all of the country’s alternative investment professionals.”

The new chapter will be led by chapter head Yuichi Alex Takayama, global head of sales (International Business) for Nikko Asset Management. He is joined by the following chapter executives:

  • Deputy Head of CAIA Japan: Daisuke Imaeda, head of institutional business, AMP Capital Investors KK;
  • Events Coordinator (Education/Content) of CAIA Japan: Rory Kennedy, COO, Rogers Investments Advisors KK;
  • Events Coordinator (Logistics) of CAIA Japan Shoko Shiga, managing director, CAT Partners.

“Japan represents a growth area for CAIA, as we have seen rising interest from the Japanese alternative investment industry in learning about all of the benefits that come with earning the CAIA Charter,” said Jo Murphy, managing director, Asia Pacific for CAIA. “Asset owners and asset managers alike understand the value that a deep understanding of alternative investments provides, and those educational opportunities, along with the networking opportunities offered by our local chapters, make the launch of CAIA Japan so exciting.”

Founded in 2002, the CAIA Association is best known for the CAIA Charter, an internationally recognized credential granted to those in the institutional alternative investments industry upon successful completion of a rigorous two-level exam series and accumulation of relevant work experience.

The association is comprised of more than 8,000 alternative investment professionals located in more than 90 countries, sponsors more than 140 educational and networking events per year and has 37 academic partnerships with leading universities around the world.
