Law firm Herrick, Feinstein has hired veteran alternative investments executive and lawyer Stephen Jacobs as partner and co-chair of the firm’s corporate department.

Jacobs comes to Herrick with significant hedge fund and PE experience spanning a variety of asset classes and industries, including real estate, media, entertainment, telecommunications and technology, according to the company.

In his new role, he will strengthen Herrick’s corporate transactional and private investment fund capabilities, and the firm’s ability to form and advise fund clients in several key practice areas.

Prior to joining Herrick, Jacobs was COO, general counsel and chief compliance officer for distressed credit specialist Spectrum Group Management. He will continue in his Spectrum roles while co-chairing Herrick’s corporate department.

Before Spectrum, he was a corporate partner at Kramer Levin Naftalis & Frankel, where he advised private equity and hedge fund managers in the real estate and TMT sectors, and spent eight years in senior operating positions at portfolio companies sponsored by the private equity funds Quadrangle Group and Wasserstein & Co. Early in his career, Jacobs was assistant general counsel at AIG.

“Stephen’s arrival significantly bolsters our fund formation, regulatory and transactional capabilities for private investment funds, and our broader corporate practice,” said Irwin Kishner, chairman of Herrick’s executive committee. “Our clients will also benefit from Stephen’s insights on the legal services market, drawn from his nearly 30 years of experience on both sides of the attorney-client relationship.”

Founded in 1928, Herrick is among New York’s most prominent law firms. It provides a full range of legal services and its corporate department is well-known among large companies, financial institutions, private equity firms, venture capital firms, hedge funds, institutional investors and other public and private entities.
