Aegon Asset Management Names Gary Black CEO of U.S. Arm

Aegon Asset Management has appointed former Janus Capital Group CEO Gary Black as chief executive officer of its U.S. unit. 

Black’s appointment is effective June 27, 2016, according to a company statement. He will be based in Chicago and will report to Sarah Russell, CEO of Aegon Asset Management.

In his new role, Black will lead all aspects of Aegon Asset Management's U.S. business, and focus on implementing the company’s strategy to develop and distribute high-quality investment strategies and solutions for investors in the U.S. and abroad. 

Aegon’s U.S. arm specializes in fixed income, credit and structured capabilities. It had $128 billion in AUM as of March 31. 

Black has 24 years' experience in financial services. He was most recently global co-chief investment officer at Calamos Investments. Beforehand, he was CEO and CIO of Black Capital, and was CEO of Janus Capital Group from January 2006 to July 2009. At Janus, Black was responsible for successfully building distribution, creating a global team structure and turning around investment performance, the statement said. 

Before joining Janus, Black was CIO for global equities and responsible for U.S. distribution at Goldman Sachs Asset Management. He began his investment career in 1992, working as a research analyst at Sanford Bernstein, where he was named the top-ranking analyst in his sector for six consecutive years.
