Kames Capital Taps Macquarie’s Black For Global Equities Role

Kames Capital has hired former Macquarie executive Robin Black as an investment manager within the firm’s Edinburgh-based equities team.

In his new role, Black will be responsible for augmenting the team managing global equity mandates, with a particular focus on Japan. He will report to Stephen Adams, head of equities, the company said in a statement.

Black joins Kames from Macquarie’s Hong Kong division, where he has worked as a managing director since 2010 and was responsible for global sales of Pan Asian equities. Beforehand, he was managing director - head of Asian and Japanese sales into North America at Deutsche Bank in New York. Black has also held roles at Citigroup and Merrill Lynch as a director in Japanese equity sales, and at Martin Currie where he was an investment manager.

“The appointment of Robin adds strength and depth to our equities team, as we look to further develop our capabilities both in the UK and in continental Europe,” commented Adams in a statement. “Robin’s extensive experience in Japanese equities in particular will allow us to strengthen our credentials in the region.”

Edinburgh-based Kames traces its history back to the 1831 founding of Scottish Equitable Assurance Society, which rebranded to Aegon Asset Management in 2001 and renamed its UK investment management arm as Kames Capital in 2011. The firm managed £50.1 billion on behalf of wealth managers, financial advisers, family offices, pension funds, financial institutions, government agencies and individuals as of June 30, 2016.
