Newton Investment Management, an investment boutique of BNY Mellon Investment Management, announced its appointment of Hanneke Smits to its Board of Directors and as Chief Executive Officer designate, succeeding Helena Morrissey.

Morrissey will move into a new role as non-executive chair of the Board of Directors after 15 years as CEO of Newton, the company said in a statement.

Hanneke Smits’ career spans more than two decades in financial services, most recently serving as Chief Investment Officer of Adams Street Partners and a member of the firm’s Executive Committee. Based in London, Smits will be actively involved in managing Newton’s business and focus on expanding its presence in key growth markets.

As non-executive chair, Morrissey will continue to serve as an adviser to Newton and will represent Newton and BNY Mellon Investment Management within the financial services sector.

“As Newton continues to expand its international footprint, I am confident in Hanneke’s ability to lead the firm into its next phase of growth,” Mitchell Harris CEO of BNY Mellon Investment Management, said in a statement.

Newton is a London-based global investment management subsidiary of The Bank of New York Mellon Corporation. With assets under management of about $66.7 billion (as at 30 June 2016), including assets managed by Newton Investment Management Limited as dual officers of Newton Investment Management (North America) Limited and The Bank of New York Mellon, Newton’s group of affiliated companies provides investment products and services to a wide range of clients, including pension funds, charities, corporations and (via BNY Mellon) individuals.
