Oldfield Launches UCITS Versions of Three Equity Funds

Boutique fund management firm Oldfield Partners has launched UCITS versions of three of its institutional equity fund vehicles effective September 13.

The new funds will be domiciled in Ireland, the company said. They are the Overstone UCITS Japanese Equity Fund, the Overstone UCITS European Equity Fund and the Overstone UCITS Global Smaller Companies Fund, respectively, each of which correspond to a similarly named qualifying investor vehicle. They join the TM Overstone UCITS Equity Income Fund, which was formed in 2011, in the company’s UCITS stable.

Fund management will remain consistent with the traditional funds, the company added. The decision to form UCITS versions was due to the potential for greater access from a wider universe of potential investors and because the UCITS structure has become the de facto standard for pooled fund structures in the UK and Europe.

Shareholders passed a resolution approving the merger of these funds into UCITS structures at an extraordinary general meeting on August 30, 2016.

“The UCITS structure will give a wider investor base access to these strategies, enabling [reduction in] the funds’ total expense ratio as the assets grow in each strategy,” said Jamie Carter, CEO of Oldfield Partners.

Founded in March 2005, Oldfield manages around $4 billion for endowments, pensions, family offices and high net worth individuals. Led by former Mercury Asset Management CIO Richard OldField, it concentrates on seven types of equity portfolios: global, global ex-U.S., global equity income, global smaller companies, emerging markets, European and Japanese, and has a fund of funds strategy.
