London-based Global Prime Partners has hired a trio of senior executives for its upcoming structured products division. The group includes former Nomura executive Mike Ward, who has been tapped to head up the firm’s new business development.

Ward will be initially tasked with expanding Global Prime’s product offering with the launch of a structured product division in the first quarter of 2017. The new service, which will be initially aimed at UK onshore clients, will provide clients with streamlined access to the best issuers of structured products combined with bespoke technology and tailored customer service, according to a company statement.

Prior to his new role, Ward was co-head of EMEA equities for Nomura. Beforehand, he head of equity sales, EMEA at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, and brings with him a wealth of experience across global market product lines and a deep understanding of EMEA-based clients.

Joining Ward as new senior appointments is Matt Robinson, who comes aboard as head of structured product sales, and Ross Trotman, who joins the firm as head of structuring. Robinson brings almost 25 years of experience in derivatives-based structured securities and funds, and held positions at Catley Lakeman Morgan Stanley, Bank of America Merrill Lynch and BNP Paribas. Trotman, meanwhile, joins from structured product specialist Hartmoor, and previously spent eight years at Investec Bank as a senior structurer.

“Structured products complement our existing Execution, Clearing, Custody and Prime Brokerage businesses and will leverage off our client service infrastructure,” said Julian Parker, CEO of Global Prime, in the statement. “We are delighted that individuals of the caliber of Mike, Matt and Ross have been attracted to the exciting opportunities offered at GPP.”

Founded in 2009, London-based Global Prime is a boutique firm that provides prime brokerage, execution and clearing services to hedge funds, broker-dealers, asset managers, family offices and professional traders around the world. It is known for its support of emerging fund managers.
