Investcorp’s alternative investment solutions group has hired former CalPERS executive Nelson Ramos as co-portfolio manager of the company’s alternative risk premia portfolios, deputy head of cross asset investments, and a member of Invesco’s cross asset and investment committees.

In his new role, Ramos will focus on the management of the alternative risk premia portfolios and will be actively involved in the different stages of the investment process, including cross asset research, factor research and development, and portfolio construction, the company said in a statement.

Ramos is an 18-year veteran of the alternatives industry. He joins Investcorp from the California Public Employees Retirement Systems (CalPERS), where he managed the quantitative research team that developed and supported the global equity and risk premia allocation models. At CalPERS, Ramos was a member of the tactical asset allocation research group, as well as the global equity investment review and trust level investment review committees.

Prior to joining CalPERS, Mr. Ramos spent seven years at Blackrock as a senior portfolio manager for emerging markets equity, with responsibilities for management, signal research and model development. Ramos is a CFA charterholder.

“We are very pleased to welcome Nelson to Investcorp,” said Lionel Erdely, CIO of the company’s alternative investment solutions group, in the statement. “His deep expertise and strong track record in developing alternative risk premia strategies will further strengthen our team and our innovative capabilities in this space.”

Founded in 1982, Investcorp is a provider and global manager of alternative investment products across multiple asset classes including hedge funds, corporate investment and real estate. The company’s Alternative Investment Solutions team oversees $4 billion of program assets as of June 30, 2016, of which $345 million is proprietary capital, while the company as a whole had AUM of $10.8 billion as of June 30, 2016.
