Absolute return specialist BlueMountain Capital Management has hired Jon Weber as head of portfolio company management to lead the firm’s portfolio company operations.

In his new role, Weber will work closely with and advise the management and boards of BlueMountain portfolio companies, and will be responsible for leading the operational oversight, governance and value enhancement of those investments, the company said in a statement.

He will work closely with portfolio managers engaged in BlueMountain’s private capital & opportunistic investments effort, and will report to BlueMountain CEO & Co-CIO Andrew Feldstein and Co-CIO Derek Smith.

Prior to joining BlueMountain, Mr. Weber headed similar efforts at Anchorage Capital Group, Goldman Sachs Special Situations Group, and Icahn Enterprises. Over the past 15 years, he has served as a board chair, member, senior executive, or board level advisor for dozens of companies in a broad range of industries. Previously, he was an investment banker at JPMorgan Chase & Co. and Morgan Stanley. Earlier in his career, he also worked as an attorney for Weil, Gotshal & Manges.

“Jon brings to BlueMountain a wealth of experience leading the operational oversight and corporate governance efforts of companies across a number of industries,” said Feldstein in the statement. “His expertise in improving the operational efficiency, financial performance and governance of public and private companies will further enhance our ability to deliver returns and value to our investors.”

New York-based BlueMountain Capital Management was founded in 2003 by Feldstein, a former JP Morgan executive, and ex-McKinsey senior consultant Stephen Siderow. The company is a multi-strategy absolute return manager with more than $21 billion in AUM deployed across credit, distressed, special situation, equity, structured finance and technical/arbitrage strategies.
