BC Partners Taps Ex-Apollo IC Exec Goldthorpe For New Credit Unit

European private equity company BC Partners has brought former Apollo Investment Corporation president Ted Goldthorpe aboard as a managing partner.

Goldthorpe, who will based  in New York, will be responsible for launching a new credit business, named BC Partners Credit, that will concentrate on lending and debt trading, according to a Reuters report. The position is new. 

Goldthorpe was most recently president and CIO of Apollo Investment Corp. and head of Apollo Global Management’s senior lending group. He left Apollo last June. Beforehand, he managed the bank loan and distressed investing operations of Goldman Sachs. 

Working with Goldthorpe in the new effort will be former Wingspan Investment Management executive Matthias Ederer and former Stonerise Capital partner Henry Wang, both of whom worked with Goldthorpe when all three were at Goldman. 

The new unit is expected to raise capital for its first fund later this year. 

Founded in 1986 and headquartered in London, BC Partners is an international private equity firm with more than €13 billion of assets under management. Since inception, BC Partners has completed 93 investments in companies with a total enterprise value of €115 billion. The firm is currently investing from its ninth fund with total commitments of €6.7 billion raised in 2012.
