Fast-growing integrated treasury management specialist Hazeltree has strengthened its management team by hiring veteran executive Don Jefferis as managing director of strategic accounts.

In his new role, Jefferis will focus on leading Hazeltree’s business development efforts in strategic markets such as insurance companies, endowments and pension plans, the company said in an email to FINalternatives

Jefferis, a CPA, brings more than three decades of experience to his new role, having held senior positions in the consulting, energy, and software industries. Most recently, he launched energy-focused consultancy Opportune LLP’s process & technology practice, where he served as a strategic advisor and operations consultant to numerous energy producers, marketers and traders.

Early in his career, Jefferis co-founded Arthur Andersen’s Energy Risk Management practice, where he advised and assisted electric power and natural gas producers and transporters on operational, risk management and control, and information management systems necessary to capture market opportunities in deregulating, competitive markets. In the mid-1990s, Jefferis joined Mirant as chief information officer, and became president of TenFold Energy in 1999. Subsequently, he was appointed CFO of TenFold’s publicly-traded parent company.

“We are consistently seeing increased interest in Hazeltree’s treasury solutions across all areas of the investment management industry, driven by the increasing complexity resulting from regulatory shifts, investment diversification and escalating demands for transparency,” said Sameer Shalaby, president and CEO of Hazeltree. “Hazeltree has earned a strong reputation for success in the hedge fund and asset management industry, and with Don’s leadership, we are well positioned to expand into a number of additional buy-side markets.”

Founded in 2009 and headquartered in New York, Hazeltree offers comprehensive treasury management solutions for hedge funds, fund administrators, managed account providers, pension funds, and insurance companies. The firm’s integrated platform includes comprehensive cash management, securities financing, OTC collateral management, counterparty management and margin management capabilities.
