Henderson Global Investors Launches New Market Neutral Equity Fund

Henderson Global Investors has launched a new UCITS-compliant global market neutral fund that will pursue a “best ideas” approach to long/short equity investing.

The new fund, named the Henderson Gartmore Global Equity Market Neutral fund, is domiciled in Luxembourg as a SICAV, according to an article in Citywire. It will utilize an investment committee to select the best ideas across the asset manager’s equity investment teams and use a pairs trading approach to implement them.

The fund, which will be managed by 17-year Henderson veteran Steven Johnstone, will strive for low volatility and positive absolute return, the article said.

“The launch of the new fund reflects our customers' demand for an absolute return strategy with low volatility,” a Henderson spokesman told Citywire. “The isolated use of the specific expertise of experienced fund managers through the formation of pair trades offers a significant potential to generate alpha for our customers.”

Founded in 1934, Henderson Group is one of Europe’s largest independent asset managers. The company managed more than £101 billion as of December 31, 2016, and agreed to purchase Janus Capital Group for $2.6 billion in October 2016.
