ION Asset Management Taps Former U.S. Ambassador Shapiro For Advisory Role

Multi-strategy alternative investment manager ION Asset Management has hired former U.S. ambassador to Israel Daniel Shapiro as a senior advisor.

In his new role, Shapiro will advisor ION on key issues regarding to its funds and portfolio companies, particularly those about relevant geopolitical and commercial matters, the company said in a statement. 

Shapiro was named ambassador to Israel by President Barack Obama in 2011. Beforehand, he was senior director for the Middle East and North Africa on the U.S. Security Council, and was previously a legislative assistant and foreign policy advisor for a number of senators and congressmen. Ambassador Shapiro resigned from his position on January 20 following the election of Donald Trump to the presidency. 

ION was founded in 2006 by former UBS executives Half and Stephen Levey. Based-near Tel Aviv, the company is home to the Ion Israel Fund, a Cayman-domiciled long/short equity strategy focused on publicly traded Israeli and Israel-related securities.
