Andrews Kurth Names Morgan As Counsel

Law firm Andrews Kurth has named investment management lawyer and former Schulte Roth executive J.R. Morgan as counsel in its corporate practice.

Morgan will focus on representing private fund sponsors in the creation and management of their management companies, and in the formation of domestic and international funds, including private equity, venture capital, oil and gas, real estate, private debt and hedge funds, the company said in a statement. Morgan also frequently works on related investment management matters such as structuring family offices, co-investment vehicles, managed accounts and "funds of one."

Morgan began his legal career in the New York office of Schulte Roth & Zabel LLP, where he handled investment management regulatory and compliance issues, fund formation and fund management. He later joined the London office of Schulte Roth & Zabel International LLP, where he advised major financial conglomerates and institutional investment managers with global structuring and assisted entrepreneurial. start-up managers launching first-time funds. In 2013, Mr. Morgan founded Morgan LLP. which was recently named "Best Boutique Law Firm" in the United States by HFMWeek.

Before entering private practice, Mr. Morgan served as a judicial extern in the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals and worked as a securities analyst for a $300 million investment fund.
