Madison Dearborn Names Ex-Nielsen Global Exec Lewis As Executive Partner

Private equity company Madison Dearborn Partners (MDP) has named information services industry veteran John Lewis as an executive partner.

Lewis will assist in pursuing attractive investment opportunities across the information services landscape, the company said in a statement. In particular, he will assist MDP in identifying and developing businesses with differentiated capabilities in data and business analytics.

Lewis has also joined the company’s TMT Services Advisory Group, which comprises outside industry executives who assist MDP with identifying new investment opportunities and generating value for MDP’s funds within existing investments. 

Lewis was most recently global president of Nielsen Holdings PLC, where he he oversaw Nielsen’s global “Buy” business and its ex-North America “Watch” business, which comprised approximately two-thirds of Nielsen's more than $6 billion of annual revenue. In addition, Mr. Lewis completed and successfully integrated more than 10 strategic acquisitions while at Nielsen. Beforehand, Lewis was CEO of Knowledge Networks, and previously led the consumer products division at The NutraSweet Company. 

“John is a successful operator with a deep understanding of what it takes to build and cultivate a strong franchise in information services,” said Scott Pasquini, a managing director at MDP, in the statement. “His operating expertise complements our capabilities well and we are excited to add John’s contributions to the long-term success of our information services investments.”

Based in Chicago and founded in 1992 by veterans of First Chicago’s MBO and VC units, Madison Dearborn Partners has raised seven funds with aggregate capital of more than $23 billion and has invested in around 130 companies. The firm is currently investing out of its $4.4 billion MDCP VII fund and focuses on six industry verticals: Basic Industries, Business & Government Services, Consumer, Financial & Transaction Services, Health Care, and Telecom, Media & Technology Services.
