Russell Investments Appoints Ex-BlackRock Exec Linhares As EMEA Chief

Apr 25 2017 | 7:16pm ET

Global asset manager Russell Investments has appointed former BlackRock executive Joseph Linhares as the company’s new Head of Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

In his new role, Linhares will report directly to CEO Len Brennan and serve as a member of the firm’s executive committee, Russell said in a statement. He will be based in London.

Prior to joining Russell, Linhares was most recently global head of platinum accounts at BlackRock and a member of the company’s operating and retail global executive committees. He was with BlackRock and predecessor firm Barclays Global Investors for 16 years, during which time he was in London as the firm’s head of EMEA iShares. Earlier in his career, he held positions at Citibank and JPMorgan.

“There are significant growth opportunities in multi-asset investing globally, as investors look for ways to achieve their investment outcomes, while also managing risk,” said Brennan in the statement. “Nowhere is this opportunity clearer than in EMEA, which has long embraced a multi-asset approach. The addition of Joe to lead this important market for us positions the firm exceptionally well for the future.”

Founded in 1938 and headquartered in Seattle, Russell Investments is a global asset manager with approximately $266 billion in assets under management as of March 31, 2017, including hedge funds, fund of funds and other alternative assets. It is one of the few firms to offer actively managed multi-asset portfolios and services that include advice, investments and implementation.

The company’s ownership is composed of a majority stake held by funds managed by TA Associates with minority stakes held by funds managed by Reverence Capital Partners and Russell Investments’ management.
