Chiron Lauches New 'Quantamental' Multi-Asset UCITS Fund

Boutique multi-asset investment manager Chiron Investment Management has debuted a new UCITS-compliant fund that aims to preserve capital while also generating above-market total return

The new fund, named the Chiron Global Opportunities Fund, was launched in collaboration with UBS, the company said in a statement. It will be domiciled in Ireland as a sub-fund of Chiron Funds ICAV, an Irish UCITS structure.

The new fund will employ Chiron’s signature quantamental investment process, which is described as a hybrid combination of rigorous quantitative modeling with deep fundamental research. The process, which the firm has employed via its Capital Allocation Fund over the last 19 months, has proven to outperform Morningstar’s World Allocation Category by more than 4%, Chiron added.

The fund is collectively managed by Ryan Caldwell, co-founder and CIO, head of fundamental research Grant Sarris, and head of quant research Brian Cho. It will be comprised of a globally diverse portfolio, targeting opportunities across different regions, industry sectors and across the capital structure, the company said. It will apply a factor framework of over 75 factors to over 4000 global companies to filter the universe to roughly 500 companies before applying deep fundamental analysis to further narrow the opportunities and construct the portfolio.

“Through our quantamental process, we have managed to mitigate risk in an environment of increased uncertainty and market volatility, which we can now offer investors overseas,” said Caldwell in the statement. “In just 19 months, Chiron has raised over $700 million in assets, an achievement I credit to our commitment to our investment process and deep bench of expertise.”

The new fund reportedly launched with $100 million in AUM, initially attracting assets from Hong Kong, Singapore and Switzerland. It is also passported for sale in the United Kingdom, Spain, Germany, Austria and the Netherlands.

Founded in 2015 by Caldwall, a former Waddel & Reed mutual fund manager, and GPS Partners, Chiron Investment Management is a boutique investment management firm with offices in Leawood, Kansas and New York.
