Jeffrey Gundlach Sets the Record Straight at #SALT2017

May 17 2017 | 5:10pm ET

Jeffrey Gundlach appeared live as a hologram at the 2017 SALT Conference.

In a speech that maintained many of the same themes from his Sohn Conference discussion last week, Gundlach argued that investors should peel off a piece of their S&P 500 market exposure and invest in an emerging market.

During his lunchtime speech Wednesday, Gundlach said that he became bullish on international currencies after the Federal Reserve began its tightening of monetary policy. Gundlach said that the belief that the dollar will rise during a period of rate hikes disrespects the market as a discounting mechanism and that “it disrespects history.” Gundlach offered evidence that the dollar's value declined during periods of tightening in 1986, 1994 and 2004.

The live feed from California to Las Vegas did freeze at one point for a few seconds during his speech, eliciting a groan from the audience. However, "Hologram Jeffrey Gundlach" received applause at the end of his presentation as he took a bow.
