Alternative investment accounting and advisory firm Arthur Bell has strengthened its private funds team with the hiring of Michele Johnson and Alex Contreras.

The duo will work out of Arthur Bell’s New York office, the company said in a statement. Johnson and Contreras each have more than twenty years of experience servicing investment advisers and private funds, including hedge funds and private equity.

Johnson is an accomplished CPA who previously worked with a global third party administrator and two international accounting firms. She is responsible for tax compliance and consulting, U.S. foreign reporting, FATCA and CRS compliance, client relations, business development support, recruiting, internal education, and mentoring employees.

Contreras is an industry veteran who advises on complex tax matters and tax compliance for investment advisers and the owners of closely held businesses within the alternative investment community, the company continued. He specializes in the taxation of flow-through entities and is experienced in indirect taxation, multi-state taxation, and controversy work. Contreras will also help the firm with business development, identifying industry trends, responding to new market opportunities, recruiting, training, and mentoring staff.

“We are thrilled to welcome Michele and Alex to our team,” stated Corey McLaughlin, managing member of Arthur Bell. “With this expansion of our New York office, we look forward to fostering Arthur Bell’s reputation as the ideal choice for fund managers and investors looking for a firm that understands the complexities of alternative investments.”

Formed in 1974 and headquartered in Baltimore, Arthur Bell is a specialist accounting and advisory firm that provides the hedge fund, managed futures, private equity, and high net-worth communities with audit and assurance, tax planning and compliance, performance analysis, investor representative, consulting, and family office services.
