UBS Makes Strategic Investment Into iCapital Network

Swiss banking giant UBS has invested into alternative investment platform provider iCapital Network, joining lead investor BlackRock as a strategic partner in the company.

The investment comes as confidence grows in technology-led solutions that provide individual investors with access to institutional-quality alternative investments such as private equity funds and hedge funds, iCapital said in a statement.

Terms of the investment were not disclosed.

iCapital will use the infusion of capital to further develop the core functions of its platform, the company added, and to make the technology behind its platform widely available as a workflow enhancement to the wealth management community.

UBS, meanwhile, will incorporate iCapital’s proprietary technology into its private fund operations to streamline and automate its alternative investment offering.

Founded in 2013, iCapital offers a curated selection of alternative investments, including private equity, private credit, real estate, venture capital and hedge funds, to its private network of qualified investors and advisory professionals. The company’s platform provides an end-to-end technology solution automating the unique subscription, administration and reporting processes of these investments, which have historically only been available to institutional investors.

As of June 30, 2017, iCapital had surpassed more than $2.25 billion in private fund subscriptions for more than 3,500 investors across more than 45 funds and maintained an investor network of more than 1,800 registered entities overseeing more than $1.7 trillion in investable assets.
