Risk management specialist Axioma has named former IHS Markit executive Thomas Severance as chief revenue officer.

The position is new, according to the company. In his new role, Severance will lead Axioma’s efforts to increase penetration of global markets and drive sales.

He was previously at IHS Markit for six years, where he headed the risk strategy and analytics business in the Americas for the company’s Markit Analytics business. Previously, he was regional director, Latin America for Misys, a provider of financial services software and solutions for retail and corporate banking, lending, treasury, capital markets, investment management and enterprise risk.

Earlier in his career, Severance was EVP for sales and marketing for information and analytics provider Armanta and head of global sales for Quic Financial Technologies, a developer of simulation, risk calculation, and pricing platform solutions. Severance was also MD of North America at Algorithmics, a provider of risk management software that was acquired by IBM in 2011.

“Accelerating growth in our target markets is our number one objective,” said Sebastian Ceria, CEO of Axioma, in a statement. “With more than 20 years of experience at innovative, high growth companies operating at the intersection of risk, analytics and technology, Tom is a perfect fit for Axioma.”

Severance’s hire is the latest in a string of senior appointments at the firm. Former BlackRock executive and factor-based strategies specialist Christopher Woida joined the firm in April as managing director of index solutions, and veteran technology executive Mark Traudt, came aboard in May as managing director and head of product engineering.

Founded in 1998 and headquartered in New York, Axioma offers a comprehensive suite of integrated cloud-based portfolio construction, analytics, risk modeling and optimization tools that help clients create and model portfolios and obtain views of risk across the enterprise and multiple asset classes.
