Fir Tree's Cohen Said To Launch New Private Real Estate Fund

The head of private real estate strategies at hedge fund manager Fir Tree Partners, Jarret Cohen, has reportedly left $10 billion alternative asset manager to start his own investment firm.

The new company, named Jadian Capital LLC, will have a broad real estate investment mandate, according to a statement seen by FINalternatives, and will invest throughout the capital structures of assets and companies.  The firm plans to take an opportunistic, value-oriented approach invest in commercial, residential and alternative real estate sectors, building on Cohen’s successful investment history, the statement said. 

Cohen has overseen both equity and debt real estate-related investments since joining Fir Tree in 2010, and the new fund will be asset managing the private real estate investments held by Fir Tree’s Real Estate Fund III.  Jadian and Fir Tree will collaborate on the wind down of these assets over the next two to three years, the statement continued. 

The new fund will be based in New York. Prior to joining Fir Tree, Cohen held senior positions at Paramount Group and Merrill Lynch in their respective real estate groups.
