Preqin All-Strategies Index Up For Ninth Straight Month in July, +5.93% YTD

Hedge funds booked a solid +1.15% gain in July, according to new data from Preqin, continuing a streak of nine straight months of positive returns. 

The July result has brought the year-to-date return for Preqin’s All-Strategies Hedge Fund benchmark index to +5.93%, and +9.63% over the past 12 months, the company said in a research note. All of the main strategies tracked by Preqin for the measure produced positive returns during the month, with equity strategies leading the table with a +1.66% gain. 

Elsewhere, emerging markets-focused funds were the top performers in terms of geographic region, gaining +2.63% and brining the regional segment’s 2017 year-to-date cumulative return to +10.09%. Asia Pacific-focused funds are not far behind, up +9.38% over the same period. 

Quantitative and systematic CTAs recovered in July, Preqin noted, gaining +0.99% after a difficult June. Discretionary CTAs performed particularly well, returning +1.65% over the month.
