Birch Century Launches New Long/Short Global Equity Fund

Alternative solutions provider Birch Century International has launched a new long/short global equity fund aimed at both institutional and retail investors.

The new fund will be managed as an extension to Birch Century International’s existing alternative investment offering in line with a systematic investment process that prioritizes the protection of assets against downside risk, the company said. The new Long/Short Global Equity Fund will actively invest in emerging and developed market index futures with a focus on moderate value tilt.

The new vehicle will be initially available to existing retail and institutional clients, and will be registered as a closed-end managed fund.

"As market conditions remain uncertain, and with a number of macro-economic events likely to prolong the period, our retail investors and institutional clients are looking for ways to preserve their capital against the turbulent effects of unforeseen events," said Birch Century’s Matthew Sotherby in a statement. "We present investors with a liquid alternative solution that seeks to capture the benefits of a global equity portfolio while trading between market inefficiencies in order to mitigate risk exposure.

Founded in 2005, Birch Century International is an independent provider of alternative investment solutions and asset management services spanning equity, fixed income, absolute return, and secondary market strategies. The company serves a client base comprised of private clients, family offices and institutions in more than 45 countries.
