Global private markets manager Adams Street Partners has strengthened its private credit team with the appointment of former Ares Management executive Justin Lawrence as a principal in the company’s New York office.

Prior to joining Adams Street Partners, Lawrence was a vice president in the direct lending group at Ares Management, where he was responsible for providing debt financing solutions to private equity backed middle-market companies. Beforehand, he was an associate at MidOcean Partners, and earlier, an analyst in the Financial Sponsors Group at Merrill Lynch.

Lawrence joins a growing team led by former Oaktree executives Bill Sacher and Shahab Rashid, the company said in a statement. The Adams Street Partners private credit strategy was co-founded by the two men in January 2016 and currently consists of eight investment professionals based in New York.

Headquartered in Chicago, Adams Street Partners commenced its investment program in 1972, and is credited with establishing the first private equity fund of funds for institutional investors. Today, the company manages some $32 billion across five strategies – primary and secondary private fund investments, co-investments, private credit investments, and direct venture/growth investments.
