iCapital and CAIA Partner On Alternative Investment Education Initiative

Financial technology platform iCapital Network has partnered with the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) Association on a sweeping education initiative aimed at increasing knowledge about alternative investing.

As part of the new initiative, iCapital will offer CAIA’s Fundamentals of Alternative Investments program to its member network of more than 1,900 registered investment advisors, broker-dealers, private banks and family offices.

iCapital’s online platform access to a curated menu of alternative investments along with extensive diligence support.

The announcement comes as individual investors are increasingly demanding access to alternative investments and the strategies they pursue. The growing acceptance of alternatives as an important part of diversified portfolios is coming with a recognition that the financial advisory community requires education to help it successfully navigate the evolving alternatives landscape, iCapital said in a statement.

The CAIA Fundamentals program is an online, self-directed course of study offering a base of knowledge in alternative investments for those who need to understand, discuss and position these asset classes. It is comprised of 20 one-hour modules that examine core concepts in alternative investing including risk management and due diligence, as well as hedge funds, real assets, private equity, commodities and structured products.

The program will be augmented by a two-day training program in New York on November 1-2, the company added, that will emphasize private equity and hedge funds.

“Our mission to democratize alternative investments includes a commitment to making educational resources available to the investors and advisors that need it,” said Lawrence Calcano, CEO of iCapital Network, in the statement. As part of the education push, iCapital has also expanded the Education section of its public website to include a wide range of whitepapers, reports, commentary, market research, videos, podcasts and blogs aimed at helping investors and advisors understand more about the mechanics of alternative investments.

“CAIA is singularly focused on providing the highest quality educational curriculum for professionals on alternative investments,” added Keith Black, managing director of curriculum and exams at CAIA. “Helping financial and advisory professionals understand the complexities of these topics and work confidently with a wide array of alternative investments is what we do. We’re very pleased to provide access to the Fundamentals program to iCapital’s members.”

iCapital Network provides modular alternative investment solutions for registered investment advisors, broker-dealers, private banks, family offices and other sophisticated investors. The company’s state-of-the-art online portal offers a curated menu of private equity, private credit, venture capital, real estate and hedge funds, extensive due diligence support, an automated subscription process and integration with a wide range of custodial platforms and reporting packages.

As of August 31, 2017, iCapital had surpassed more than $2.25 billion in private fund subscriptions for more than 3,500 investors across more than 45 funds and maintained an investor network of more than 1,900 registered entities overseeing more than $1.8 trillion in investable assets.
