Law firm Goodwin has named former Paul Hastings private equity specialists Douglas Freeman and Victor Chen as partners in its international private equity practice in Hong Kong.

The duo has worked together for many years, according to a statement, and have built a robust Asia-focused practice guiding private equity firms, investment banking firms, venture capital and institutional investors in connection with public and private M&A, securities offerings, financings, PIPEs and auctions in various industries.

“Doug and Victor are outstanding lawyers who are joining our platform at a time when we are seeing increasing client demand for local, cross-border, in- and out-bound support on Asia transactions as well as interest from investors seeking more specialized sector experience,” said Yash Rana, chair of Goodwin’s Hong Kong office, in a statement.

Freeman’s practice focuses on representing public and private companies, private equity firms and investment banking firms in connection with M&A, public offerings and corporate transactions. He has particular experience in advising on cross-border M&A, reorganizations, leveraged buyouts, listed company transactions, and hostile or contested control transactions, Goodwin said, and has worked on a number of going-private transactions involving China-based companies listed in the U.S.

Chen, meanwhile, represents private equity sponsors, multinational corporations and institutional investors regarding M&A transactions and investments, with a focus on Asia cross-border deals, the statement added. He has extensive experience in advising private equity, venture and institutional investors in their Greater China and U.S. transactions, and has also been active in going-private deals.

Goodwin’s private equity practice focuses on buyouts, recapitalizations, growth equity investments, and portfolio company transactions. The company’s PE team consists of more than 160 lawyers and covers the investment life cycle from fund formation to exit. The company as a whole is a well-known finance and complex transactions law firm with more than 1,000 lawyers across the United States, Europe, and Asia.
