Alternative asset manager FS Investments has named former LStar Capital executive Brian Gerson as the firm’s head of private credit.

In his new role, Gerson will oversee FS Investments' expanding business development company (BDC) and credit platform alongside the company’s chief credit officer Sean Coleman, according to a statement. He will be based in New York and report to president and CIO Mike Kelly.

Gerson joins FS with more than 20 years of experience in credit investing and corporate lending, with specific expertise in lending through BDCs, the company said. He most recently served as managing director at LStar Capital, the credit affiliate of Lone Star Funds. At LStar, Gerson developed and maintained deep relationships with the financial sponsor community and middle market intermediaries while significantly expanding LStar's corporate credit business.

Prior to joining LStar, Gerson was a founding member of Solar Capital Partners, which serves as investment advisor to two yield-oriented BDCs. At Solar Capital, he spent seven years in various credit, origination, management, and business development roles, most recently serving as Executive Vice President of Solar Capital Limited. Beforehand, he spent 12 years in various positions, including managing director at CIBC World Markets in its leveraged finance and financial sponsors group.

Founded in 2007 as Franklin Square Partners, FS Investments designs alternative investments to help institutional, advisory and individual investors build better portfolios. Its solutions include business development companies, closed-end credit funds and operating companies. The Philadelphia-based firm currently manages more than $20 billion in assets as of September 30, 2017.
