IndexIQ: All Six Hedge Fund Replication Strategies Up In October

IndexIQ’s six hedge fund replication strategies posted positive returns in October, tracking the strong results seen in other measures of alternative investment performance.

Returns were led by the IQ Hedge Long/Short Index, up +1.59% in the month, followed by the IQ Hedge Global Macro Index, which returned +0.94% in the period.  The IQ Hedge Event Driven index returned +0.65%, while the company’s Merger Arbitrage, Multi-Strategy and Market Neutral measures rose +0.65%, +0.84% and +0.34%, respectively.

All six indexes are also in the green for the year to date, led by a +12.79% return in the IQ Hedge Long/Short Index.

“Global markets continued to move higher during what is often a volatile month, in many cases setting new records,” said Salvatore Bruno, IndexIQ’s CIO, in a statement. “The backdrop for this activity generally remains positive, with GDP accelerating, employment growing, and the U.S. Senate making some progress towards tax reform. 

“A big wildcard remains inflation and the bond market, where signals are still mixed,” he added.
