Alternative investment platform provider iCapital Network has partnered with the CAIA Association to offer CAIA's Fundamentals of Alternative Investments certificate program to its private member network of registered investment advisors, broker-dealers, private banks and family offices.

Fundamentals is an online, self-directed course of study offering a base of knowledge in alternative investments for those who need to understand, discuss and position these asset classes, iCapital said in a statement Wednesday. The program is comprised of 20 one-hour modules that examine core concepts in alternative investing including risk management and due diligence, as well as hedge funds, real assets, private equity, commodities and structured products, and helps to fill a critical education gap for professionals in areas such as asset and wealth management, accounting and law.

The education section of iCapital’s public website also includes a wide range of materials – including whitepapers, short reports, commentary, market research, videos, podcasts and blogs – to help interested parties understand more about the mechanics of alternative investments.

News of the collaboration was first released in early October.

Founded in 2013, iCapital offers a curated selection of alternative investments, including private equity, private credit, real estate, venture capital and hedge funds, to its private network of qualified investors and advisory professionals. As of Aug. 31, 2017, iCapital had surpassed more than $2.25 billion in private fund subscriptions for more than 3,500 investors across more than 45 funds and maintained an investor network of more than 1,900 registered entities overseeing more than $1.8 trillion in investable assets.

The CAIA Association, meanwhile, was founded in 2002 and is best known for the CAIA Charter, an internationally-recognized credential granted upon successful completion of a rigorous two-level exam series and relevant work experience. The association is comprised of more than 9,000 alternative investment professionals located in more than 90 countries. It sponsors more than 250 high-quality educational and networking event opportunities annually and has academic partnerships with more than 60 top universities and associations in financial centers around the world.
