Malbec Recruits Ex-Amaranth, Citadel Executives

Malbec Partners said it has recruited two experienced investment teams for its recently launched alternative investment platform.

Bill Geisler, who previously ran hedge fund Amaranth Advisors’ emerging markets strategy, has been hired as a portfolio manager to head the Malbec emerging markets strategy team along with Lars Pedersen, a senior research strategist who served in the same capacity at Amaranth.

The Malbec Partners Quantitative Multi-Strategy team will be headed by portfolio managers Ryan Sheftel, previously a director at Citadel Investment Group; David Horowitz, formerly head of credit research at Morgan Stanley Investment Management; and Ian McDonald, formerly head of macro strategies at Goldman Sachs.

Both teams will report to Jeffrey Trongone, CEO of Malbec Partners.

“These hires are a significant step toward achieving our objective to create a world-class alternatives platform and to demonstrate our ability to attract superior talent, in large part due to our reputation and the global reach and support of our parent, BNP Paribas,” said Jeffrey Trongone, CEO of Malbec Partners.
