Prime brokerage Merlin Securities has added Ian Isaacs as director of research.

Isaacs joins as a senior partner and member of the executive committee from UBS, where he served as a senior vice president. According to Merlin, he has 25 years of experience researching and developing investment ideas for long/short equity hedge funds.

“Hedge fund managers never stop looking for alpha, through new investment ideas, as well as intelligence on their current holdings,” Isaacs said. “The Merlin platform provides a natural environment for my approach to fundamental research and market intelligence.”

Private equity firm Sequoia Capital invested $20 million in New York- and San Francisco-based Merlin in January.
