The California Public Employees’ Retirement System has filled its top hedge fund post. The nation’s largest public pension fund named Eric Baggesen, interim senior investment officer for global equities, to the job permanently. In the post, Baggesen oversees $132 billion in equity investments, including CalPERS’ hedge fund, corporate governance, domestic long/short, cash management and manager development programs.

Baggesen succeeds Christianna Wood, who left the fund in February to join New York-based hedge fund Capital Z Asset Management.

Baggesen has been with CalPERS for more than three years. He joined from State Street Global Advisors, where he headed an emerging markets global structured products group.
