San Francisco venture capital firm Sofinnova Ventures has hired a former telecommunications executive to cover the industry as a venture partner.

Brian Wilcove, a co-founder of Virtela Communications, joins the firm from VC firm TeleSoft Partners, where he focused on the systems, software and wireless industries. At Sofinnova, Wilcove’s responsibility will be for the networking and communications sectors.

Wilcove said of his move, “The firm’s aggressive yet controlled approach to investing will allow me to focus on portfolio companies’ long-term growth and market strength, beyond the financials.”
