The Senior Portfolio Manager will lead the credit fund component of Black River’s multi-strategy investment vehicle. The ideal candidate will have a generalist background across the capital structure, particularly among investment grade, high yield and distressed credits, and bring a strong trading perspective to portfolio management, leveraging the significant infrastructure at Black River and its team. They should have a longer-term approach to investing that takes advantage of macro themes that may play-out over the course of six to twelve months. The ideal candidate will be comfortable managing people as well as capital and risk and provide strong leadership to the current team during this transition period and beyond. This individual will be expected to credibly interface with investors of the multi-strategy fund.
Required:
• Bachelor’s Degree.
• At least five years’ experience as a lead credit portfolio manager or as a senior member of a credit hedge fund team.
• Generalist across fixed income or a specialist with deep experience in a particular aspect of fixed income (investment grade, high yield or distressed).
• Proven ability to generate positive returns; comfortable operating autonomously within a framework of risk and investment parameters.
• Management experience.
• Shorting experience.
• Strong trading acumen.
• Ability to craft a strategy based on macro credit themes.
• Willing to take risk where comfortable but not for the sake of big bets.
• Able to think within a broad absolute return framework that targets low double-digit returns annually.
• Comfortable investing with a longer-term horizon versus a focus on daily trading.
• Ability to understand fundamental cash flow, balance sheet and credit characteristics of underlying investments.
