The market downturn is playing havoc with pension funds’ portfolios as well as those of hedge funds.
The City of Cincinnati Retirement System said its portfolio decreased by $247 million in the third quarter bringing its total size down to $2.1 billion.
The plan’ investment in the ABS Alpha long/short equity fund lost 12% for the quarter, and its Common Sense long/short equity portfolio lost 11%. All told, the fund shed 8.7% on the quarter and 15.2% over the trailing 12 months.
The plan’s total portfolio was 19.5% invested in fixed-income, 46.2% in domestic equities, 17.1% in international equities, 7.7% in real estate, 3% in private equity, 5.5% in long/short equity, 0.9% in infrastructure and 0.1% in cash.
