San Francisco hedge fund administrator Conifer Securities, which began offering prime brokerage services last year, has added a former Citigroup executive to its prime brokerage effort.

Sal Campo has joined the firm as a partner and head of prime brokerage sales, the firm announced. He is tasked with expanding the firm’s client base.

“As head of prime brokerage at UBS, I spent 15 years respecting Sal as a competitor,” Campo’s new boss, Conifer head of prime brokerage Richard Del Bello, said. “Sal’s history of building one of the world’s largest prime brokerage businesses from the ground up will strengthen our team tremendously.”

Campo spent 27 years with Citigroup, most recently as managing director of equity finance and prime brokerage sales. He was a founding member of Citi’s equity finance and prime brokerage group.
