Conifer Adds Morgan Stanley Prime Brokerage Exec.

Hedge fund administrator Conifer Securities is continuing to build its nascent prime brokerage business with the hire of a former Morgan Stanley executive.

Jon Karis has been named director of prime brokerage services at the San Francisco-based firm. Karis most recently served as an executive director in Morgan Stanley’s prime brokerage group, focusing on sales, client relationships and technology.

“Conifer's strategic growth plan requires us to be innovative in product and service development while maintaining our intense focus on client service,” Karis said. “We have created new products to differentiate Conifer and increase our business opportunities while staying close to the core principles that have driven our success.”

Conifer has been steadily adding to its year-old prime brokerage this year. Earlier this month, the firm acquired Morgan Stanley’s outsourced-trading business. It also hired former Citigroup executive Sal Campo as head of sales.
