After just over a year at the helm of Capital Z Asset Management, Christianna Wood has resigned as CEO of the New York hedge fund shop.
Capital Z said James Marrone would replace Wood when she departs on July 31. Marrone currently serves as head of business development and chief marketing officer at the firm.
Wood joined CZAM last March, shortly after its spin-off from Capital Z Investment Partners. Prior to joining the hedge fund, she was senior investment officer for global equities at the California Public Employees’ Retirement System, the largest public pension fund in the U.S.
In a statement, CZAM said Wood was leaving the firm to pursue “other opportunities.”
“I am grateful I had the opportunity to work with such a great team at CZAM,” Wood said. “I remain convinced that sponsoring well-selected emerging managers represents a compelling investment opportunity, particularly on a risk-adjusted basis. I wish Laurence [Cheng, the firm’s founder and chief investment officer], Jim and the rest of this great team good luck as they continue to build the business.”
